Coast 2 Coast
By
Woollyback Legionnaires
On Thursday 30th April at least 2 members (Alan Ready, Nigel Brown) are to embark on an attempt to complete the C2C in just 4 days. Not only are they taking the off road route, and knowing those two probably the hardest climbs they can find aswell, but taking bivi bags and roughing it when needed rather than B&B ing every night.
THE PLAN
Parking up in Kirkby Stephen, get The Pack Horse Company to transport bikes to St Bee’s on the Cumbrian coast on Thursday AM ready for a 12pm start.
DAY 1- THURSDAY 30TH APRIL- Starting at midday, we'll be attempting to get to Ambleside on the first day over Black Sail pass via Eskdale and then Walna Scar and onto Ambleside for a night in the sleeping bags . 80km roughly- This will be a long hard day
DAY 2- FRIDAY 1ST MAY- Ambleside to Tan hill Inn where we are having a night in a bed at the highest pub in England . This will be via Graburn Pass, past Mosedale cottage and into Shap - again 80km roughly.
DAY 3- SATURDAY 2ND- Tan Hill to the unknown - again 80km day - bivvy somewhere.
DAY 4- SUNDAY 3RD- Unknown to Robin Hoods Bay and a night in a BB somewhere.
The total distance is 210 miles and is following Tim Woodcocks off road route so is not Wainwrights route as such. Monday 4th we will be picked up by The Pack horse Company and taken back to Kirkby Stephen for our cars.
That’s the plan but with carrying sleeping bags we could change plans if we need to.
SPONSORSHIP
On January 2nd 2009 Nige’s father in law, JOHN BOOL, died from a second stroke. He had lived after having one previously for 15 years and showed great determination in practising his speech and it was that determination that he thought would be great to copy so he decided to try and raise some money for The Stroke Association.
Nige has set a target of £300 but should be able to raise a lot more, please donate what you can through this link.
JUSTGIVING
RIDERS
Along with Nige and Al are afew others hoping to make the trip. Mark Carey who has just broke his collar bone. Geoff Lever who is just back from breaking his leg. Tony Jefford who joined the club then promptly buggered off to New Zealand and Dave Adamson who is probably the only one who doesn’t have an excuse.
