Helvellyn anti-clockwise route, starting and finishing in Glenridding NT car park
Ride from car park to Glenridding common was mostly rideable, with pushing up the steep sections with loose rocks. Glenridding common to Lower man was a combination of ride, push and carry. Fantastic views from Whiteside bank, well worth the effort. Final climb to Helvellyn summit fully rideable.
Helvellyn Summit: Stop for Photos and food. Stunning views of red tarn and most of the other major lakes.
Fast decent from Helvellyn summit to Nethermost Pike, captured two victims. Neil and Paul on the same section of rocks. Neil punctured and Paul decided to see if an XT rear mech is stronger than 36 spokes. Spokes won and Paul reverted to single speed.
Nethermost Pike to Dollywaggon Pike claimed another victim: Neil split the sole of his shoe, which was repaired using gaffer tape.
Dollywaggon Pike to Grisedale Tarn: Rideable until the repaired section about a third of the way down the decent. They have repaired the track using big uneven boulders, with big deep gaps. Great for walkers, useless for bikes and horses. Went off route freeriding down to the Tarn. Dave and Neil had minor off’s
Tarn to Climbing lodge: Rideable with lots of stop/start due to large boulders. Neil had a off on this section right in front of a group of walkers. Riding down this section inspires you with confidence to tackle just about anything.
Climbing Lodge to Car park: Dual track farm track and tarmac.
Drinks and food in the travellers rest
