SNOWDON 21st June 2007
Well that was fun.
4 hardy soles made the effort, Kiwi, Tom, DaveK and Joe (ccm)
No rain all day in North Wales only for the heavens to open as soon as we pedaled off the tarmac, it tipped it down for 10 minutes then the sun came out to dry us out. The uphill was 60% ridable and the pushing gave our lungs time to recover, there was a couple of light showers on the rest of the ascent only for the heavens to open up in full with 150m of climbing left.
Well done to Tom for pushing his very heavy bike up the steep bits.
It was a quick turn around on the top as we were starting to get cold, I had the first tactical dismount, followed by Dave stepping backwards off a big boulder to end up with his bike on top of him but no harm was done.
The accidents.
Tom led the steep tecnical bits with Joe in hot pursuit, me been a XC rider at heart couldn't keep up and gingerly made my way down the tricky bits 1/3 of the way down the mountain, it was then that I heard a big shout from Dave who had had a very nasty off when his brakes faded and he couldn't stop He landed on a big rock which smashed his helmet in 3 places, and a couple of cuts on his face and one on his knee, photo’s to follow when Dave gets a minute but the state of his helmet should make for a stack of the year award.
We then re gouped and made sure Dave wasn't too concussed then road on, then it was my turn. I bottled it at a big drop off, Joe and Tom rode it like it wasn't there . I pushed around it but after re mounting my bike and setting off I hadn't got any momentum up, my front whell got trapped and I went over the bars in slow motion, this wasn't too bad until I saw my little finger on my left hand bent 90 degrees in the wrong direction. With the adrenalin pumping I coolly poped it back into shape, this took two attemps or was dislocated in two places. Right now as I type this it's twice the size it should be but moving well so no harm done I hope.
Tom came off several times but more comedy falls than hurting ones, although he did rip Daves £70 waterproof trousers he was wearing for the descent on some barbed wire. So all in all not a good day for Dave.
Joe, didn't have any off's or troubles, the git
Anyway 2hr15mins of up and 25 fun filled (apart fromt he crashes) minutes down.
Would I do it again? You bet your arse I would
