Parbold, Billinge, Spike Island, Hale Epic Sun 15th April 2007

Riders were:-Kiwi, Steve, Alistair, spesh, Clone, Tyre kicker, Pretty, Blossom, Carrot, Spud, Old, CaptM, Rosie and Chemical Ali/gypsy

W started off in a layby in parbold with 2 people having an affair to keep us company, Carl was late. We got aquinted to Kiwi's mates Alistair and steve. oh and did i mention Carl was late.

We set of with glorious sunshine promising a good days ride, and got to billinge lump in an hour. From there it seemed a nice ride down to carr mill dam and onto the fiddle knowing that the route was all flat from there until the return. Everyone was in fine form for the piss taking and banter, must have been the weather.

Arrive at the Fiddle to find spud standing there like a little lost schoolboy, we took pity on him so gave him some abuse woollystyleLOL.

Carl's puncture fixed at the Fiddle of we went to meet up with CaptM, Old, Rosie and Gypsy/Chemical Ali(nickname not decided). Within 2 minutes of Old meeting him he already had one nickname. Fixed Capt M puncture by the bike park at D&M cycles then went on to go through leverbros factory (Old thought he was home) To the sounds of a tune from Hovis advert from Spesh and Blossom aimed in Olds direction.

We hit a nice old railway bridge that crossed the river (at this point i am sure nobody knew Spud had a fear of heightsLOL otherwise we wouldnt have been jumping up and down on the bridge while looking at himShocked), then on down to Spike Island following Old across the local tip.

A bit of lunch then onto Runcorn bridge were Spud was hanging back so he could go across as fast as he could, but notice that some had stopped halfway across to admire the view, to which he retreated and crossed 4 lanes of traffic to come across on the road, from there we hit the Trans Pennine trail upto Hale light House and started the return trip.Newbie steve peeled off to start his ride home made up he had bagged so much mileage.

Quite a quick pace was set back to the fiddlers ferry pub for light refreshment and use of the facilities(heaven), then onto sankey valley where Old and Capt M peeled off, both were on form today for their quick witty comments and had a good(bloody fast) ride. Upto the Fiddle pub where Spud peeled off, then onto Carr Mill. I punctured at Carr mill and was really feeling the strain.

From Carr Mill upto to the Beacon on Billinge, by know i was done in and a few of us where off the back just spinning it out, from the Beacon onto Ashurst beacon where i had just toatally blown it, no pain, not out of breath just nothing in my legs to push up any sort of gradient, The rest of the riders finished strongly in my eyes considering that that area is the steepest hilliest locally and they had just put in almost 70 miles.

The stats from Kiwi's GPS unit

my GPS says we did 72.2 miles in 7 hours with an average speed of 10.3mph, so much for taking it easy eh?

Here's the shocker, we climbed 1150m - Snowdon is only 1085m and that's from sea Level
