Welcome Scott aspect 40 not a bad starter bike but you need to be lookin around £1000 mark for a bike that will stand the test of regular club rides, only members can come on Thursday rides hence no start points posted in the general forum look out for the next newbie ride invite yourself join and then you will see the members bit of the forum that shows you all the club rides

dont need to spent the £1,000. look for last years model/colour. £700 can get a very good bike, for example Specialized Hardrock Pro .. look on Bikeradar, MBUK What Mountain bike..what ever you get just enjoy riding ..

Whatever you buy, if you're paying cash make sure you ask for discounts. If you don't ask you don't get. Simples.

And if they wont offer discount then ask what they will throw in for free or discounted - lots of shops will discount items when purchased with a bike or throw something in if your paying full whack for the bike - so what else do you need/want - Helmet, Gloves, Camelbak...etc

Dont be afraid to ask or haggle like hell on a 2011 or 2010 bike

they really have cut to the bone on some of the bikes. In my not very knowledgeable opinion, some real bargains to be snapped up in there.
