Hi, I am picking up my new mountain bike on friday after not riding for years. I used to do a lot of riding when i was younger so my plan is to get used to it again by myself and then i hope to come along to a newbie ride soon. I was looking at the list of suggested kit to take along with you on rides and just wondering if anyone could recommend and shop or website i can get it all in cheaply? I live Netherton so if its a shop, somewhere nearby would be good :0) Thank you and hopefully see you soon!

Hello and welcome to the club
No newbie rides planned for December but their are plenty or NCR (Non club rides) you can join and if you are OK a member can vouch for you to join the club (No need to be Rachel Atherton or anything just a reasonable general standard so as not to hold everyone up especially as it is getting cold).
With regards shops, I buy most stuff from Chain Reaction Cycles as it is cheap and free delivery, link below:

Hope to see you out and about soon.
BTW what's the new bike?Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity

Hi Karen not far from you in Bootle welcome to the club. What bike are you getting Friday? There are a few of us on here that do a local 20 mile plus loop that is quite good for building fitness, not much in the way of mountains but its ok for a local spin. More than welcome to tag along for part of route or all, usually weekend mornings.
I would not worry too much about getting stuff at first just get out on your bike and enjoy that. With winter here look at getting a decent waterproof coat, leggings and gloves. look at Aldi or Lidl when they have their bike related gear on their specials, their merino wool tops are good and reasonably priced.
A couple of web sites i use

there are loads of others the folks on the club use, sure they will post up.
Johns on college road crosby is a decent bike shop if you want to have a feel of something before you buy.Last edited by kobe2018; 26-11-2014, 22:27.

Hi Karen & welcome to the club
There's quite a few members in North Liverpool (like Kobe) who should be able to help you out with local routes & shops. One i can think of is Formby Cycles-
http://www.formbycycles.co.uk/
A club favourite that's in St Helens is Thatto Cycles-
http://www.bikesyoulike.co.uk/page/31/Thatto_Cycles
The Aldi/Lidl stuff is also ok & well worth a look, many in the club rate their gear.
There's also loads of on-line shops if you know what you're after & know the sizing with clothing.
On-One are another on-line shop that's worth a look-

Most important thing is to get out riding & enjoy yourselfLast edited by Zoomer; 26-11-2014, 23:09.Sha...ting !!

Thank you everyone for your welcome and your advice…lots for me to look at :0)
The bike i am getting is white :0)))
Its from halfords…its called Carrera valour. It didn't break the bank but is hopefully good enough for now if i don't do stunts, which i have no intention of doing :0)
Kobe: Once i have got a bit of confidence that i won't hold everyone up i love the idea of the weekend ride…do you go on the roads or is it off road? And no mountains sounds fantastic :0) or bumps or dangerous bits? oncoming traffic? mud? loose gravel? ha ha! :0)) Anyway, I am quite fit as i run and swim every week so its just a case of getting the "cycling" muscles in working order again so hopefully i will be joining you soon :0)

The route is mostly off road and very flat. Takes in some quiet roads that link bits up, no on-coming traffic. Mainly canal paths, the cheshire lines and the coastal path. And if you see our kiwi he will be riding on the sand.
i wouldn't worry about holding any one up you sound in better shape than me.
