Reading Art Dave's comment on the MTL how it went thread, which read.

"p.s for Kiwi, I was chatting part way round to a rider on an Orange 5, with bar bags, saddle bags, and all kinds on his bike. He'd done 4 days riding / bivvying in Wales, had ridden over, was doing the Towneley loop, then riding back to Hebden After it. He's a proper Bivvy'er, not scared by a drop of rain.........."

It got me thinking why I Micro Adventure? Why do I go out for single night bivvy's rather than do full on bike tours?

It would be fantastic to get out for days on end with not a care in the world but home life, work, a dog to walk, a wife to keep happy and numerous day to day jobs just to keep the wolf from the door which stops me just packing up and riding off into the sunset.

Oh to be single and living in a cheap flat or even living at Mum and Dad's.

As for the fella Dave met, good on him I wish him all the best and if he wants to ride the Pennines in the rain then good on him.
Me if I had the freedom to ride for a week or so in September I'd rather be somewhere in Europe or in the states following the sun and surf not suffering here in a bad weather window just for the sake of it.

So, why Micro Adventure and Bivvy only in good weather?
It's simple. it's because I can and because I can do it in the time allowed.
Plus I hope that I've got quite a few years riding left so why be miserable and do it in bad conditions for days on end when weather forecasts are fairly accurate 48 hours in advance nowadays?

As for longer rides, as a matter of interest I do have several planned, but the main one I have routed out is in the far North West of Scotland but it needs a 4 or 5 day sunny weather window around May/June time.

So for now on, when time and family allow I'll Micro Adventure and dream of longer sunny rides.
